The game of volume and void is in its 3rd Iteration, part of a practice of instructional drawing that I have been developing since I was 18. As much as it is about imagining new spaces and architectures, it is about activating collaborators using a set of instructions and drawing tools deployed very specifically to different age groups. It’s a Sol Lewitt move with a sprinkle of community practice. It is at the intersection of my interest in ‘drawing’ and ‘teaching’.
Informed by the brutalism of Belco, I conceived of the system as an NGA tour guide staring up at the amazing TRIGRID structure of Edward Madigan Torzillo’s NGA. Probably as I was waiting around to give you or your child a tour of the collection.
